Baths
Hailing from the quiet hazy suburban town of Chatsworth, California, Will Wiesenfel – or Baths as we’ve come to know and love him – released his startling debut album Cerulean on the Anticon label at the end of last month. If like me, you have been playing earlier tracks Hall and Maximalist to everyone and anyone that will listen, then you’re in for a treat. From the lazy-summer morning brilliance of Indoorsy, to the Toro Y Moi-esque pop gem You’re my excuse to travel, Cerulean is sonically and lyrically outstanding from start to finish. On Indoorsy Wiesenfel proclaims “its a breezy beautiful day, the birds and girls and their weightless ways” before shutting the curtains and going back to bed… ”it takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence.”
I read a review recently that someone wrote after watching Baths live, it said something along the lines of “I can’t believe a human being created what I just saw” and that’s the general feeling you’ll most probably be left with after hearing this record, and that’s not a bad feeling to have at all…
